Patients With PID Not Tested For HIV Or Syphilis

According to a new study, people with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) are not being tested for syphilis and human immunodeficiency virus in emergency departments despite their heightened risk. PID is an infection of the uterus and surrounding reproductive organs that can complicate a persons ability to get pregnant and can ultimately cause infertility. According to UPI, the study findings were published Tuesday in The Journal of Pediatrics. Since 2006 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that everyone diagnosed with PID be tested for HIV and syphilis.
